Our goal is to commercialize products derived from plants grown at low temperatures by enhancing the ability of plants to photosynthesize and process UV radiation in cold conditions.
Incorporated in 1997 by a team of five leading Canadian agri-food academics and researchers, Ice Biotech specializes in the development of technologies that enhance the yields and sustainability of major crops in cold climates or growing conditions.
Ice Biotech Inc. has obtained patents or licenses for the following technologies: Cold-induced plant proteins, including antifreeze proteins and dehydrins; Cold-inducible promoters to direct gene expression; Plants transformed with genes encoding cold-induced proteins; Use of cryoprotectants to enhance freezing tolerance in plants.
Ice Biotech serves the Canadian marketplace from its brand new, state-of-the-art production facility in The Greater Hamilton Technology Enterprise Centre.
