Ontario Agri-Food Technologies is a not-for-profit organization with members from farm associations, academia, industry and governments. We focus on Ontario’s participation in developing, promoting and adopting biotechnology in an ethical and environmentally conscious manner, for the agri-food sector of the province. Agricultural biotechnology is defined as the modification of any living organism (or biological component of an organism) used for food production that improves the efficiency, competitiveness or sustainability of the food production system.

Many recent developments, such as the new technology for genetic manipulation of plants and animals, the emergence of specialty products, contract manufacturing and growing, changes in the trade agreements and increased international competitiveness, are now changing the face of agriculture world-wide. Although Ontario is well-positioned to take advantage of these changes to enhance its agri-food industry, our effort must be coordinated for the collective economic and social well-being of the province and its citizens.

OAFT proactively supports the continued development and adoption of new Agri-food technologies in a manner which will stimulate improvements in farm and food processing sustainability, profitability, and improve Ontario’s strong position in the Agri-food sector, both nationally and internationally.
